Summer Dance Programs
José
Mateo Ballet Theatre offers distinctive
and exciting summer programs,
reflecting its philosophy that all students deserve the personal attention
necessary to fulfill their individual potential. It also recognizes
that students benefit greatly from the rehearsal process and performance
experience.
Summer Intensive
Ages 10 - 21
June 30 - August 1, 2008
The Summer Intensive program is designed for students ages
10-21. The schedule consists of daily (9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday
to Friday) technique classes, daily pointe classes (including variations),
and three classes each week in other dance forms, including Modern,
African, and Pilates. The program also includes master classes with
guest teachers. Guests in 2007 included Allegra Kent, former prima ballerina with the
New York City Ballet; Andrew Kelley, former principal dancer with
the Dutch National Ballet; and Kristin Sloan, a Young Dancers Program alum and current member of the New York City Ballet. All students participate in daily rehearsal
periods in preparation for a final performance of works by Mr. Mateo held at the end of
the program.
Students must audition for placement in the Intermediate or Advanced
levels of the Intensive Division. Call 617-354-7467 to schedule an audition.
Audition Via Video
For those students unable to attend a scheduled audition, José Mateo Ballet Theatre invites them to send an audition video between 8-10 minutes in length. Female students who would like to be considered for partnering classes should wear pointe shoes.
Videos should include:
1. Tendue en croix (front, side, back, side) followed by releve passe, facing the camera;
2. Develope devant, a la seconde, and arabesque (front, side and back), facing the corner;
3. 16 counts of petit allegro (small jumps) including glissade, assemble and jete;
4. Females - pique turns from the corner, Males - tour en l'air;
5. 16 counts of a waltz combination including piroettes and consecutive releves on one leg.
Summer Elementary
Ages 3 - 12
June 30 - August 1, 2008
The Summer Elementary Program is a five-week program fro children ages 3-12 to explore the natural joys of dance and music. Caring instructors develop students' skills, positive self-esteem, and creativity in a fun, safe and inspiring environment. Click here to download the registration form.
Creative Dance I (age 3) - Tuesdays from 3:15-4:00pm
Creative Dance I (age 3) - Wednesdays from 4:00-4:45pm - Filled
Creative Dance II (age 4) - Tuesdays from 4:00-4:45pm
Creative Dance II (age 4) - Wednesdays from 4:45-5:30pm - Filled
Creative Dance classes include singing, games, stories, folk dance and creative movement exercises. Students discover their ability to express themselves creatively through dance movement.
Tuition: $90
PreBallet I (age 5) - Thursdays from 4:00-4:45pm
PreBallet II (age 6) - Thursdays from 4:45-5:30pm
PreBallet students expand their range of experience through dance rhythms and movements that prepare them for future study in ballet technique. Classes emphasize freedom of movement through improvised and choreographed exercises.
Tuition: $90
Girls Level I (ages 7-9) - Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30pm
Girls Level II (ages 8-12) - Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-5:30pm
Students participate in structured exercises at the barre and center and learn basic positions, steps and dance phrases. Classes highlight the joys of music and movement in a more formal introduction to classical ballet vocabulary and beginning technique.

Boys Level I (ages 7-9) - Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-5:30pm
Boys Level II (ages 8-12) - Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30pm

Introductory Ballet for Teens and Adults
10 weeks --- starts JUNE 3 AND JUNE 5, 2008
Introductory Ballet for Teens and Adults, Levels I and II. This course is designed for older beginning ballet students and consists of excercises at the barre as well as floor and center work. The course runs for 10 consecutive weeks and costs $125. Pre-registration is required. Level I runs from 6:00-7:30pm on Thursdays and Level II runs from 6:00-7:30pm on Tuesdays.
